Wire-cut spark erosion is an electrical discharge machining method well suited for machining complex or awkwardly shaped metal workpieces for a variety of industries. Each electrical discharge—up to 250,000 per second—displaces a tiny metal particle from the workpiece at the point where the machined object and the wire electrode draw closest.

For wire-cut EDM machines to run smoothly, the metal particles that accumulate in the liquid flushing agent that also serves as an insulator and coolant must be removed effectively. Deionized water is the liquid generally used when workpieces are processed via wire-cut EDM.
